Coronavirus Resources & Information

This page will provide information related to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and Chemeketa's preparations and response.

Chemeketa students and employees:  Our COVID-19 Questionnaire is no longer accepting responses.  In accordance with current Oregon Health Authority guidance, it is not necessary to report your positive test result. 
If you have COVID-19 or are ill (source Oregon Health Authority):
- Stay home until you have not had a fever for 24 hours without using fever reducing medication and other COVID-19 symptoms are improving.
- Avoid contact with high-risk individuals like people who live in congregate care facilities or people with immunocompromising conditions for 10 days.
- Mask when you are around other people in the 10 days after you become sick or test positive.

SimpliChek Vending Machine: 
  • Chemeketa has partnered with with Santiam Hospital and Clinics SCoPE laboratories to host a vending machine that dispenses self-administered at-home PCR tests for COVID-19, Flu and RSV.
  • Location:  Building 2, Salem Campus, 4000 Lancaster Drive NE, Salem, OR 97305.  Located in lobby on ground floor near elevator and snack bar.  https://tinyurl.com/39ch6m2f
  • Hours of operation:  Monday-Friday, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.  
  • Access to vending machine open to the public; if ill and picking up at-home test kit, please wear a face mask while accessing the machine or dropping off your test kit
  • How it works:  The machine is easy to use and will walk you through the steps to get a kit.  You can also use your phone to help you with instructions to gather a saliva sample for a PCR test.  Just drop off your sample in the collection bin next to the vending machine.  Within 24 hours, SCoPE labs will contact you by email with the results.

Chemeketa serves a diverse community and health outcomes have proven more devastating to those most vulnerable. Masks are an effective tool to protect yourself and others from the risk of severe illness, or even death.

The college continues to monitor the coronavirus (COVID-19). Information continues to evolve, and updates are available from the Oregon Health Authority and the Centers for Disease Controls and Prevention (CDC). 

Chemeketa consults the CDC guidance and our local public health authorities to ensure the ongoing health and safety of students and employes.  The college also follows Oregon-OSHA guidance for workplaces.

Chemeketa Community College does not require the COVID-19 vaccine for enrollment, participation or employment with the college. Chemeketa encourages everyone to take the opportunity to be immunized with the safe, effective and free vaccine. See below for links for vaccination opportunities. The COVID-19 situation continues to evolve. It is critical to check your email regularly, because the college will send important information throughout to ensure that you can be successful.

Chemeketa's Counseling Services are just one call or email away to ensure you don't lose momentum on your academic and career journey.

What precautionary action is Chemeketa taking?

  • Access to campus:  We require that all students and staff conduct a health assessment before coming on campus. Stay home if ill. Notify your instructor (if student) or supervisor (if an employee.)   • Cleaning and disinfection: Disinfectant spray and wipes are available throughout college facilities
  • Hand sanitizer has been placed in College areas with high public interaction (reception areas, help desks, etc.) and other areas as needed

We encourage students and staff to sign up for Chemeketa’s emergency alerts. Important and timely information is provided through text messaging, voicemail, and email. Sign up for emergency alerts at the Parking & Public Safety webpage.

Messages will also be communicated through digital signage, social media, website, building alarms, public address systems, and media releases.
